Mathematics is also a women's issue! But to what extent is the Faculty of Mathematics committed to equal opportunity career opportunities regardless of gender in its field? The FMA has developed concrete measures in this regard in its Decentralized Equal Opportunity Concept for the Gender Equitable Promotion of Young Scientists, which are listed below.

 

Concrete measures taken by the FMA (decentralized equality concept)

Application Process
  • Improve job advertisement texts
  • Improve placement of job advertisements on correct networks
  • Early and strategic planning for advertisement
  • Continue to conduct high quality appointment procedures at the faculty
  • Pay attention to the proportion of women in the application process
  • Consider applications from women positively as a matter of principle
  • Increased evaluation of competencies in the area of personnel management and gender competence
Targeted Approach
  • Active recruiting of good graduates, involvement as student assistants, tutors and/or through final theses
  • Targeted approach to job advertisements, also within the faculty
  • Targeted promotion of female scientists in particular, who have attracted positive attention during guest professorships or through cooperations; retention at the faculty
  • Targeted invitation of external female scientists
  • Targeted approaching of external female scientists for substitute professorships and lectureships.
  • Strive for a change (men and women) in invitations to the colloquium
Flexible Working Hours
  • Exclusion of precarious employment, employment contracts not less than 50% of weekly working hours and/or counter-financing.
  • Target agreements to achieve permanent employment contracts and non-scheduled professorships
  • Maternity leave for female professors and postdocs
  • Enabling childcare
  • Support for re-entry/bridging of status passages
  • Enable dual career system
  • Observance of the family code
  • If necessary, set up a rotation position to take time off for part of their time - e.g. for research
Visibility and Support
  • Point out current publications and nationwide trends on the topic of 'women and mathematics'
  • Make career information/options visible
  • Performance bonuses for activities in committees
  • Cooperate with BfG on STEM recruitment (Faculties involved: FMB, FVST; FEIT, FNW, FIN, FMA).
