The project "Divers on Air" is a podcast draft. Already in the name the contents become clear, on which a focus is to lie: "Divers" refers, among other things, to the invited guests and the target audience. "On Air" describes the format in association with a recording and shows the connection to a cooperation with the university radio GuerickeFM.

Interview

How did the idea for your concept come about?

We learned about the Challenge during the "Diversity Management" seminar. We were also able to submit our concept to our lecturer, Dr. Sander, as part of the exam. Then, of course, we did some research to find out how the Challenge was structured, whether we could identify with it, and whether we wanted to take it on. It was immediately clear to us that we wanted to make a difference and participate. First we had to read up on it, because there were three different areas for which concepts could be submitted. We had to find out for ourselves: What do we like, what things can we offer, what comes straight to our minds? I thought the accompanying tutorial was great, because our questions about the framework conditions were clarified there and we received support. We were also provided with a lot of material. In our project, we dealt a lot with the university structures and with the question of what is actually offered at the OVGU on the topic of diversity. Therefore, it was quite good to have an interface with the tutorial to research and work out things there.

Would you participate in such a challenge again?

Of course, it's not realistic at the moment, since we are in the final stages of our studies and are just starting our master's theses. So it's not really feasible, but I would definitely recommend it to other students because it was fun and we were able to develop a professional concept. You also get the opportunity to implement it and really make a difference. That's how you can tell that our ideas are being received and that we can really make a difference for diversity, for equality and all the other dimensions that go with it. However, we would be very happy if other students would take up our concept.

What do you think distinguishes a diverse university?

For us, a diverse university means that everyone is allowed to be who they are, who they want to be, what they look like or where they come from - it doesn't matter. We would like to see more tolerance, acceptance and sensitivity to this issue. It would be nice if people would deal with this topic more. In this way, misunderstandings can be counteracted and talked about. In principle, this is exactly where our concept comes in. We want to make the diversity that already exists at OVGU transparent. Everyone is already doing something or there are many mini-projects that have never been bundled anywhere. We would like to create more transparency to point out how broad the engagement already is and get a ball rolling. We would like to create awareness, talk about it and then also show how many great people are already dealing with the issue here in the context of the OVGU and let them have their say.
