Workshop "Sexismus-Lots*innen"

Project "Sexism-Lots*innen" of the Center for Linguistic Social Research

Upcoming dates:
"Peer-to-peer" workshop for students* of Otto-von-Guericke University:

Block workshop: 07.09.2022, 09:30-17:00 o'clock.
To register for the workshop, please email gefa@fasrafhw.de.

Between October 2021 and September 2022, OVGU's Central Office for Equality is funding an AlGf project on sexism in university contexts. Under the title "Sexismus-Lots*innen" ("Sexism Pilots"), the office, under the leadership of Dr. Kristin Kuck and in cooperation with the German Studies faculty, is developing a workshop concept to raise sexism awareness specifically for students. In the future, a peer-to-peer workshop will be offered at regular intervals via student representatives, which students of all disciplines can attend and in which they will learn to recognize and classify sexist communication and also how to deal with it or intervene. The funding runs for one year and initially includes, in addition to the development of the guidelines, training for the student representatives themselves on sexist communication. They will be trained as future workshop leaders.

The project goes into the next round

After the trainers for the Sexism-Lots*innen Peer-to-Peer Workshop were already trained in February of this year, it is now starting publicly for the entire student body of the OvGU. On September 7, the German Studies Department will host the first Peer-to-Peer Workshop and invites interested parties to register for it. In the workshop the theoretical basics of sexism, its types and forms of expression will be taught. Furthermore, sexist situations at the university will be presented and discussed. Practical exercises will enable the participants to find a way to deal with sexism at the OVGU and to react to it.

Registrations for the workshop on 07.09.22 can be sent to the German Studies faculty trainers* at gefa@fasrafhw.de until 31.08.2022.

Review

Through your participation in the survey, the project "Sexismus-Lots*innen" of the Arbeitsstelle für linguistische Gesellschaftsforschung (Center for Linguistic Social Research )was able to collect a number of field reports on being affected by sexism at the university, for which we are very grateful. Selected reports will form exemplary bases for sexism at the university in upcoming workshops.

The survey has been completed as of 11/30/2021. There were over 950 respondents to the survey.

In February 2022, various representatives of the university's student councils and departmental units trained as sexism pilots*. The two-day workshop enabled the student representatives of FHW, FVST and FMED to gain insight into how sexist situations arise and are carried out at the university. The basis of these insights was a survey conducted as an example, in which students and employees of the OVGU reported sexist situations. The goal of this workshop was to train a first generation of trainers for upcoming peer-to-peer workshops in order to generally raise awareness for sexism at the university. Another train-the-trainer workshop, like the one in February, is planned.
