Online Conference: Gender and Violence in History and the Present

At Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, an intensive scientific examination of gender-based violence will be the focus of an international and transdisciplinary symposium from February 14 to 16, 2022.

Under the title "Gender and Violence in History and the Present," 18 scholars from the fields of history, political science, sexology, gender studies, sociology, European ethnology, crime prevention, health research, digital philology, and German studies will present their research at the intersection of gender and violence. The conference will discuss how the causes, forms, perceptions and consequences of private and public, but also state and institutional violence have changed and how gender-specific attributions of perpetrators and victims have changed.

The goal of the conference is a broad-based examination of past and present phenomena of violence on the basis of a gender-sensitive concept of violence. It is also a concern to show processes of change and developments that enable and produce current phenomena of violence.
