Network Women's and Gender Studies NRW: Ready to cross borders. Interview about Emmy Noether with Mechthild Koreuber
Emmy Noether (1882-1935) was in many ways the first mathematician of the 20th century. With her unusual working methods and original thinking, she made a major contribution to bringing structural thinking into the mathematical disciplines. Already with her postdoctoral thesis of 1918 she solved central mathematical problems of the theory of relativity. As a woman and a Jew, teaching in Germany in the 1920s and early 1930s, she was exposed to multiple professional discrimination. Sandra Beaufaÿs spoke with Mechthild Koreuber, whose research has initiated an interdisciplinary exchange on the work and biography of the scientist. Still 90 per cent male quota on management boards
Five years ago, the Federal Cabinet decided on a women's quota for supervisory and management boards of listed companies and companies subject to co-determination. The quota applies to the supervisory boards of the 105 companies currently affected, but not to their management boards. For the Federal Minister for Women's Affairs, it is unacceptable that hardly any progress is being made in appointing more women to the boards of directors: "Anyone who continues to report the target figure of "zero" and fails to give plausible reasons for this must expect sanctions," Giffey announced. The forgotten works of art by women before 1919 in the Old National Gallery are our theme, as are the forgotten Bauhaus women. More. |
