The Magdeburg sociologists Christian Schneickert, Jan Delhey and Leonie Steckermeier received the second prize from the Fritz Thyssen foundation for social science essays for their studies on the feeling of esteem. They found that 93 percent of people in Germany feel valued in their everyday lives, especially in their families and circle of friends. About one in two people feel disregarded, but this is more likely in public areas such as the workplace. The essay "Eine Krise der sozialen Anerkennung? Ergebnisse einer Bevölkerungsbefragung zu Erfahrungen der Wert- und Geringschätzung in Deutschland" in the renowned Cologne journal for "Sociology and Social Psychology". Do you know particularly talented female scientists from the natural sciences at OVGU? Until September 1, you can nominate them for the Karin Witte Prize for female scientists. The prize, endowed with 5,000 euros, will be awarded at the academic ceremony in November. The aim of the award is to motivate female scientists to continue their scientific career at the OVGU. The Department of Applied Sexology at Merseburg University of Applied Sciences invites all interested parties to participate in the nationwide study PARTNER 5. PARTNER 5 is a historical comparative study. It follows a tradition of research in sexual science with four previous studies (from 1972, 1980, 1990, 2013) and is dedicated to questions about sexual and partner behavior and experience. The current study focuses in particular on experiences with sexual harassment, other border violations and sexualized violence. These topics have become the focus of public and political attention since #MeToo and numerous disclosures of sexual abuse in institutions. Questions about the effects of the current restrictions in the context of the Corona pandemic are also addressed. The PARTNER 5 study is aimed at adults aged 18 years and older. It is funded by the Ministry of the Interior and Sports of the State of Saxony-Anhalt. The study is secured in terms of data protection and research ethics. The results of the study will be used to improve counseling and education on sexuality and measures to prevent sexualized violence.

In Germany, access to continuing education is heavily dependent on factors such as educational level and income. Can digital continuing education in the form of e-learning make access to continuing education generally more equitable? This is to be found out with the help of the survey called "Access to digital continuing education". It is a cooperation between the project eVideoTransfer2, carried out by Arbeit und Leben Berlin-Brandenburg and funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, and a bachelor thesis by Francesca Lambertz at the Humboldt University of Berlin. The survey is available online. The results should help to improve access to continuing education in Germany. The anonymous online survey with 107 questions can be found here. The Women of Europe Awards go into the next round. The international counterpart of the Women of Europe Awards is awarded jointly by EMI and the European Women's Lobby to women who are involved in the European project on a full-time or honorary basis. Until 1 September, member organisations from the EMCDDA network can nominate female candidates in four categories. You can find the complete announcement here

With the Demography Award, the state of Saxony-Anhalt honors committed and future-oriented people, associations, networks, municipalities and institutions as well as companies. They are honored for successfully implemented ideas and projects that already have a lasting effect and contribute to shaping demographic change in the state. A total of 10,000 euros in prize money is available for the prizes. In addition, two special prizes will be awarded with the support of the Investitionsbank Sachsen-Anhalt and the Techniker Krankenkasse. Based on the appeal "The need for a feminist analysis of the Corona crisis: Starting points for a democratic, solidary and intersectional vision of society", the Politics and Gender Section of the DVPW (German Political Science Association) invites contributions to a theme week "Pandemic" from 5 to 9 October 2020 in the blog interdisziplinäre geschlechterforschung. In the Corona crisis and the ensuing economic crisis, social inequalities come to a head. They find their expression in undignified working conditions under which (undocumented) migrants work, and are reflected in the feminization of poverty, in low-wage sectors (especially in care professions), in hermetically separated worlds of the poor and rich quarters in metropolitan cities, and in systemic racism. These and other phenomena have already shaped social 'normality' before the pandemic. Their causes can be found in multiple power and domination relationships. In politics, media and science, the polyphony of expert opinions on ways to a democratic and solidary society beyond the Corona pandemic must become audible. With this goal in mind, the Politics and Gender Section of the German Political Science Association (DVPW) invites contributions to the blog interdisziplinäre geschlechterforschung. Texts on the following topics are welcome:

• The gender of the Corona crisis
• The gender of crisis diagnoses
• The Agenda of the Social Sciences
• Critical feminist concepts of society

The .lkj) Saxony-Anhalt and LanZe invite you to the "Long Night of Applications" on September 4, 2020, to discuss project ideas together in a comfortable and productive atmosphere, to give tips for good application procedures and to answer questions about funding instruments. The focus will be on the project applications that are specific to each participant. No matter whether there is only a rough idea or a concrete application is to be reviewed. Together with program partners of "Kultur macht stark" as well as other experts for funding applications (state, federal, EU) there will be a complex and intensive consultation. The second women&work online congress is intended to remind people of the importance of their own health. More than 20 experts* will give on September 5, 2020, at the free online congress "women&health" health-improving and health-maintaining insights that help to regulate one's own health and to bring body, mind and soul into mindful harmony. Numerous experts*, who were interviewed in advance on various topics, will give helpful tips and suggestions for maintaining health and prevention. Participants learn about the various fields of activity in which "gender in university teaching" plays a role. In addition, techniques and strategies will be presented that allow dealing with gender at different levels of teaching and enable the productive and equal participation of all students and teachers as well as developing scope for action. Concrete examples from practice will be worked on, which can also be brought in by the participants. How did it live as a lesbian woman in the GDR? "UFERFRAUEN" is a documentary film that traces and portrays the life stories of six lesbian women, how they loved and lived in the GDR - in the city and in the country - as same-sex women. These six very different biographies are exemplary of the hitherto untold lesbian history, ranging from heartfelt love stories to state oppression. How did they, the mothers, workers and fighters, these often "invisible" lesbians, who were influenced by socialism, live? The "UFERFRAUEN" illustrate a topic that has hardly been noticed by the public and tell an exciting piece of German history. Uferfrauen conveys the omnipresent feeling of loneliness as an outsider, the social tabooing of homosexuality, the compulsion to conform and adapt in a repressive state - a life on the (private) fringes of society, always in personal conflict, jumping into the cold water or staying on the safe shore. In their diversity, the protagonists pursued the same goal: the search for personal (love) happiness. Sometimes new tasks have to be mastered or existing tasks have to be solved by new ways of working. What can managers do to support their team in this situation? Hashtags like #MeToo bring it into the collective consciousness: Sexualized discrimination and violence is still a current, but often tabooed topic. It can occur in all areas of society - scientific institutions as places of study and work are not exempt from it and are therefore obliged to actively counter discrimination, sexual harassment and violence in their spatial and cultural infrastructure. In the predominantly digital theme week with the focus "#MeToo in Science?!", this complex and important topic will be examined with a special focus on all people working at a science institution. Legal frameworks, gaps in protection, as well as duties and opportunities for action will be discussed and space for the exchange of experiences will be created. The symposium addresses students, management, administration, lecturers and researchers alike and aims to encourage and enable (pro-)active and safe action by all participants. It is the basis for new as well as the confirmation of already existing cooperations and the sounding out of joint projects, measures and regulations. We would like to invite you not to make the topic of sexualized discrimination and violence taboo, but to actively develop protection and prevention concepts that enable a way of dealing with it that helps all those involved and creates a work and study atmosphere in which everyone feels comfortable and can use their potential. The Corona crisis is currently forcing many of us into the home office, employees in public authorities as well as in the private sector, managers as well as clerks. For managers in particular, this means a special challenge in several respects: On the one hand, they must ensure that the usual tasks are performed as well as possible, even under the more difficult conditions. Secondly, they ask themselves how leadership in the home office works? In this webinar you will be given tips and tricks on how to keep in touch with your team from your home office. In the Digital Workspace, participants have the opportunity to deal intensively with the topic of diversity in digital teaching according to their own priorities. The following content focuses are offered in synchronous elective modules:

• Gender and diversity in digital teaching OR equal opportunities and digital testing

• Accessibility in digital teaching OR internationalization and digitization

In addition to these elective modules, the participants will receive a basic introduction to the different diversity dimensions, to language appropriate to diversity, to the topic of heterogeneity of learners as well as to compatibility issues and digital teaching (including part-time studies, studies with family responsibilities). The goal of the Digital Workspace is to provide participants with basic skills that will enable them to design their own digital teaching in a diversity-sensitive manner. Women are simply less visible in science. The reasons are manifold and hinder women researchers at all stages of their careers. Countermeasures are only slowly taking effect. It is the names Watson and Crick that are inseparably linked to the discovery of the DNA double helix. Rosalind Franklin made an important - if not the most important - contribution to the structural elucidation of our genome with her X-ray diffraction images. Franklin is considered a prime example of the Matilda Effect: the systematic repression of women's contributions to research. Even today, women are still clearly underrepresented in science. This is less due to deliberate discrimination than to the growing culture of science. more

At the end of June, an English-language anthology with essays on the topic of female under-representation in mathematical and natural science fields was published. The book can be downloaded from the internet or ordered as print-on-demand. It is a result of the research project of the same name, funded by the International Science Council (ISC), which combines a comprehensive global survey with a bibliographic study of publication patterns. to the anthology

The "ERAC Standing Working Group on Gender in Research and Innovation" has published a policy brief on mobilizing against sexualized violence and sexual harassment in higher education and research. Not only since Corona we are confronted with a crisis of concern. Nor have we only known about this crisis since the pandemic, even if this is currently being negotiated. Rather, feminists have been working for decades to bring about a change in the conditions of concern, and the 'systemic relevance' currently recognized has since provided them with an opportunity to critically question society's handling of this relevance. Thus, in the context of the second women's movement, feminists revealed the structural necessity of housework for the capitalist economy and advocated a fundamentally changed socialization with their demand for wages for housework (Biermann/Bock 1977). In recent years, too, a major feminist debate on the question of care has flared up again. The demand for a care revolution and adequate financing of the care economy, as demanded by Swiss feminists in 2019, points to a continuity of feminist struggles for care that has existed for decades. more

In May 2020, the Federal Conference of Women's and Equal Opportunities Commissioners at Universities published recommendations for action to make gender diversity at universities more visible and strengthen it. In particular, bukof sees an urgent need for action with regard to the entry and change of name and gender, the use of gender-appropriate language and address, and the structural infrastructure. Other topics, such as personnel recruitment and development, low-discrimination teaching and family-friendly universities are being continuously developed and supplemented. What is the status of gender equality in corona reporting on television and in the online appearances of print media in Germany? How often do women and men have their say? How often and on which topics are they interviewed as experts? In cooperation with the University of Rostock, the MaLisa Foundation has published a study on the gender distribution in corona reporting, the results of which show a frightening imbalance with regard to the question of who is allowed to express themselves publicly and media-effectively in times of crisis. Although the proportion of women among physicians is 47 % and in the fields of virology, infection epidemiology and microbiology 45 %, the proportion of women in the television reports and news programs of ARD, ZDF, RTL, Sat1 on Corona (with a medical focus) was only 17 %. In the evaluation of print media (online) with almost 80,000 articles, women were only mentioned as experts to about 7 %. Only 4 % of women were named as virologists. The Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency has summarized the requests for advice on discrimination in connection with the corona virus that have been received since the corona pandemic in a current background paper and classified them under anti-discrimination law. More than half of the reported cases related to discrimination on the basis of ethnic origin, while other cases related to discrimination on the basis of disability, age or gender identity.
