The OVGU has a large number of plans and concepts for improving equal opportunities

Equal opportunities (1993) and compatibility of studies, career and family (2006) are anchored in the OVGU's mission statement and basic rules. The active implementation of equal opportunities equity through structural and personnel measures is thus defined as a cross-sectional task of higher education policy and gender mainstreaming is a fundamental component in all administrative processes, in profile building in research and teaching and in quality assurance. The target agreement between the OVGU and the state of Saxony-Anhalt (2015-2019) substantiates these postulates of equality with the obligation to implement the research-oriented equality standards of the DFG and the target figures defined in the Landesprogramm geschlechtergerechtes Sachsen-Anhalt by means of a cascade model (science) and quotas (administration).

The University is committed to improving the equality of scientists and scholars. Women are indispensable for the diversity of research perspectives. The perspectives of all sexes complement each other and thus serve the continuous improvement of research results. A technically oriented university has the special task of increasing the proportion of female students, especially in the MINT subjects. This goal requires raising the awareness of university staff and management bodies for gender issues and greater attention to the performance relevance of gender equality measures.

"The insufficient participation of women means a deficit of efficiency and excellence for the higher education sector, because the innovation potential inherent in science and research can only be fully exploited if as many outstanding talents as possible remain in the science sector regardless of gender and do not migrate to other areas of employment on their way to their highest performance. Men and women must be equally involved at all levels of the scientific knowledge process". (Recommendation of the HRK "Frauen fördern" of 14.11.2006)
